Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of This Year Secures a Substantial Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel introduced a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a serene talk show. In an era often marked by cynicism, this show's earnestness found an audience and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

Network Praise

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about observing this lovable family go about their simple existence.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to evolve comedy past its prevailing layer of irony. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to experience the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
