Brian Eno Encourages Backing to Send Together for Palestine Track to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A charity drive is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The effort hopes to send support to people in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Chance for Unity and an "Unlikely Coup"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to show solidarity with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He acknowledged the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be incredible if that came to pass, yes,” he said. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a category of their own.”
Resilient Spirit of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the reimagining of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's defiant core message.
“The song holds a deeply meaningful spot for many individuals,” Barghouti explained. “The essence is that I would choose to perish with honor than spend my life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a dignified life that we merit as a people.”
Production History and Star-Studded Lineup
The single was laid down after a solidarity show held in September. Initially planned to be captured during the live event, the performance was omitted from the lengthy event due to scheduling overruns.
The notable list of performers appearing on Lullaby encompasses a group of prominent voices from the scene. All were part of the September show, which reportedly raised a considerable total for humanitarian aid.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was brought to life by a team of music creators. The single features a mix of the original Arabic with freshly written English words.
The team running the campaign have clarified that their goal is to collect the highest amount for a charitable pot. These donations will be allocated to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“We don’t have a rigid aim,” a spokesperson explained. “We will pursue as much as possible. Naturally, the more the merrier. Every penny goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The reality in the territory was noted for its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of buildings said to be destroyed or damaged.
“Given that reality, a handful of millions is unlikely to make that much difference. But I think what does make a difference is primarily raising awareness for this issue and proving there’s another side to the story.”
The track is set to be released at the end of the week. Additionally, a full recording of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a digital service from mid-December.
