Fans Call for Arrest of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Devoted fans of the pop star are urging that a individual who jumped a barrier and seized the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be detained or deported from Singapore.
A circulating clip shows the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past camera operators and charging at Grande while the performers walked down a promenade accompanied by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the surprised actress away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being removed of the gathering by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being detained", though legal records indicated that he was set to appear on the next day. It is unknown if he was charged.
Record of Disruptions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram profile contains recordings of him disrupting other celebrity events, including rushing the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney performance in earlier this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the city last December.
"Steps should be implemented applied against him as this is obviously a punishable act," stated an Instagram commenter, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Followers Voice Worry Over Ariana's Safety
Several supporters accused Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the end of her 2017 show in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said another message on Instagram.
Some attendees also questioned security officers at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while some called for online networks to remove Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande appeared surprised when she was touched by the intruder. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has remained silent on the event, and the rest of the event proceeded as normal.
Many of fans had congregated in a mass of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific premiere in a Singapore venue, including a number who had queued for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The film, to be released on November 21, is the follow-up of a two-part interpretation of the well-known theatrical production Wicked, which focuses on the unlikely bond between two very different characters.
The show itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a light pink sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the villainous character, wore a elegant ensemble featuring roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of last year in the UK, and received ten Oscar nominations, earning a pair for outstanding attire and artistic direction.
