Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's natural for doubts to be asked about his future following a further heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in 12 games, marking the club's poorest streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got plenty of backing from management,” the coach stated.
“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He added, “I accept my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with The Board
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the trust. However I've not talked to them since this game yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Reaction
The manager lamented recurring failings from his squad in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a phase such as this with results so bad.”
He concluded, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we'll continue to battle.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to the top, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
