Spurs Boss Frank Labels Goalkeeper Critics 'Not True Real Fans'
The Cottagers Start Strong to Defeat Tottenham and Increase Pressure on the Manager
Tottenham Hotspur supporters who jeered goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were told afterwards "those individuals can't be real Spurs fans" by boss Thomas Frank.
Spurs let in a pair of scores in the opening six minutes to lose 2-1 to their opponents, registering their 10th top-flight home loss of the year.
But the main topic of discussion was Fulham's next score when Vicario gave away possession far beyond his area.
He ventured out to deal with a high pass and carried the ball towards the touchline.
However, rather than booting it into touch, the Italian spun and tried to clear, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Wilson and was collected by Josh King.
King laid the ball off to Wales midfielder Harry Wilson, who curled a shot into the goal from the touchline recorded at thirty-six point six metres.
Moments later when the ball went to the keeper once more, a number of Spurs fans jeered him.
Spurs were booed off at half-time, with the club 2-0 behind, and again at full-time.
One of those booing episodes truly irritated the manager.
"It came to my attention some of our supporters reportedly jeered the incident and jeered following, which, in my view is totally unjustifiable," the Danish manager stated about the supporters' reaction to his goalkeeper.
"Those individuals cannot be true Tottenham fans that do that. Fair enough booing following the game, fine, but when we are playing, we are supporting each other, we are with one another moving ahead."
Kenny Tete had given the visitors a fourth-minute advantage prior to Harry Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Spurs in an better second period showing.
Former top-flight keeper Joe Hart stated that the second score was "completely avoidable".
"I certainly understand the fans' frustration," Hart continued. "I know the part Vicario is playing. He's a great team player, he is a real figure in the locker room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your decisions.
"The keeper was heavily implicated in what ended up to be the decisive score."
'It is Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'
Thomas Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Vicario Following the Match
Italian national team Vicario is in his third campaign with Tottenham.
The 29-year-old stated after the match that he had to accept the feedback.
"That score was a mistake of mine, I accept accountability for that," he said.
"My aim was to kick the ball far and I simply hit the ball in a bad manner. It was an even bigger mountain to climb."
He stated being booed "is part of the game".
"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he added. "We can't be affected by the circumstances in the crowd. The fans have the right to do what they think.
"It is on us to stay increasingly composed, to focus on ourselves. The team is missing in calmness and calmness to reverse results. Today is a bad loss and it is tough to accept."
'I Was Surprised Nobody Went Back to the Goal Line'
Despite the keeper's mistake, it was far from an simple score for Wilson to score.
Actually it was the next most distant Premier League goal of the season – following Tyler Adams' forty-three point three yard strike for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which interestingly too came on Saturday.
Wilson said he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an empty goal to aim for.
10 seconds passed between the keeper coming out of his area and Wilson striking – which was five seconds following the kick.
"I felt like the goalkeeper was away from the area for ages," Wilson remarked.
"It amazed me not one of the defenders went back to the goal line. When not one of them covered the goal, my interest lit up a bit.
"Udogie fell too, which gave me a bit of additional time. After that it was solely about attempting to achieve the right contact and place it on target. I felt a positive feeling, the moment it left my foot, that it was on the right line."
'When You're in a Poor Run, All Seems to Go Against You'
Jeering Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unjustifiable - the Manager
While the keeper's mistake dominated headlines, this was an all-round bad day for Tottenham to continue their home ground struggles.
The match was their tenth at home defeat of 2025 in the league, a joint team record along with 1994 and two thousand and three.
The side still have home fixtures against the manager's old side Brentford and champions Liverpool to come before the close of the season.
Just a single of those victories have occurred since Frank took over from Ange Postecoglou in the summer.
"If you are behind 2-0 after six minutes, there is a mountain to overcome," said the boss.
"When you're in a bad spell, all aspects appears to go against you as well – the opening was a redirected shot, the next is a error from the keeper.
"This result puts us in a place where we have suffered an additional game. Each fixture has a single story, this game we lost in the first six minutes.
"We just need to continue striving. The later period was significantly improved and with luck an aspect we can utilize to learn."
Tottenham have been defeated in 4 consecutive home London derbies for the initial time in the Premier League.
Furthermore they are averaging nine point five shots and three point two efforts on goal per game in the Premier League – their poorest rates on file in a single campaign (dating back to 2003-04).
Ex- Cottagers midfield player Murphy stated that Frank has to endure the criticism.
"He must accept the criticism," Murphy said. "He has accepted a prestigious role at a huge team with enormous anticipation. There is scrutiny and duty that comes with that.
"The performances at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
