The Latest Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Debates Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers launched a fresh playlist called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but includes a few key adjustments:

  • Each team has only eight human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities performed by real players award full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

In short, this mode lives up to its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides more options for players seeking different methods to have fun with the title. But, if video games has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 players are mad.

Player Responses: Anger to Praise

"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," while another lists everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," adds another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," while someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Concerns and Player Input

All that said, there are constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of options in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the player base compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. Another describes this addition as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?

Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
