The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional business:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
